5 Tips to Save Money Booking Your Honeymoon

Let’s face it: after dropping a chunk of change on a wedding dress, a venue, vendors, and all of the odds and ends that make a wedding day special, the last thing you want to think about is spending another five grand on a honeymoon. And yet…you keep daydreaming about wearing that new bikini and enjoying margaritas by the ocean with your new spouse. Thankfully, there are several ways that you *can* save money booking your honeymoon. Stick to these tips and you’ll be on a beach somewhere with a second ring on your finger in no time!

A Credit Card that Gains Points, Money Back, and/or Miles

This kind of card can be used to bank points/miles, which you can then use to pay for your honeymoon and flights. A great way to earn points is by using the card for your vendor payments! It’s easy to track your payments and even to set up autopay so that you don’t have to worry about missing a payment or incurring any late fees. Just be sure to pay off the balance each month so that you don’t get buried in interest. Bonus: you can continue to reap the benefits of your card post-wedding by banking even more points to put toward future trips!

The Chase Sapphire card is our personal favorite. Use our referral link to sign up and you’ll receive a bonus from Chase!

Use a Travel Agent to Get the Best Deals

A little-known fact is that a travel agent will actually cost you nothing! And, the benefits that a travel agent provides are many. They’ll take their time to research the best deals for you, and help you access perks that you would otherwise know nothing about. They may even have ‘surprises’ waiting for you when you arrive at your resort!

In addition, a travel agent will print all of your documents and handle any rescheduling or other snafus should anything disrupt your travel plans. They’ll give you all of the info you need about your destination, including tips and tricks to familiarize yourself with the area, and they can send you lodging and dining recommendations within your budget. What’s not to like?!

We personally recommend Karla Balfanz. You can reach her at Karla@hotspotspro.com, 970-686-7077, or her website.

Set Up a Honeymoon Fund For Your Bridal Shower

For this, we don’t recommend using sites like Honey Fund or Zola since they will either take a percentage from you or charge the gift giver. Also, you aren’t in control so you don’t know what’s coming in.

Instead, we recommend putting an insert into your bridal shower invites, as well as writing up a blurb to post on your wedding website so that your guests know about the fund. Then, use Venmo (you can even create a QR code to put on your invitation insert) and have Zelle as a backup option.

There are many ways to word a request for honeymoon funds. This is one way, but a quick Internet search will provide you with an array of options!

We’ve been together a while, with all our pots & pans. And as we don’t need traditional gifts, we have another plan! We know it’s not traditional, or how it’s usually done. But rather than a wedding list, we’d love a bit of sun! So, if you would like to give a gift & send us on our way, contributing to our honeymoon would really make our day!

Another option is to set up a ‘honey fund’ box on the gift table at your shower. You can even customize your wedding website with ‘experiences’ you’d like to go on and their price point so that people know what they are contributing to.

Book During Holidays/Sale Events

This is a great way to score 50% off a night, a free night, or extra perks. The most popular holidays for these sale events are President’s Day, Memorial Day Weekend, Labor Day, and Black Friday, so mark your calendar! And, if you book with a major resort only to notice a better sale happening down the line, most will assist you with rebooking under the better price point (provided your room category is still available).

Be Flexible with Flights

Typically, you can save a couple hundred dollars just by shifting your trip so that you leave a day or two earlier or later than you were previously planning. Bonus: if you save on your flight and end up with extra $ in your budget, you can use that to upgrade your seat.
